Comparison
Modafinil vs Armodafinil
Modafinil
A eugeroic, a wakefulness-promoting compound, originally developed for narcolepsy. The most-studied prescription cognitive enhancer outside of ADHD treatment. Produces 12–15 hour windows of sustained alertness without the euphoria, abuse potential, or cardiovascular load of amphetamines. Prescription-only in nearly every jurisdiction.
Armodafinil
The R-enantiomer of modafinil. Similar effects with smoother onset and longer duration per dose.

The comparison in plain English
Armodafinil is the purified R-enantiomer of modafinil. Pharmacologically the active mechanism is the same, dopamine reuptake inhibition plus orexin modulation. The difference is in how the body handles the molecule.
Bottom line
Armodafinil has a longer effective half-life and a smoother peak; modafinil hits faster and harder but tapers earlier. For most users the difference is small. The decision is usually driven by what your prescriber writes or what is cheaper.
Choose Modafinil if
You want a steadier, longer effect window and you are sensitive to the afternoon dropoff of standard modafinil. Armodafinil is also slightly less likely to produce afternoon insomnia at equivalent doses.
Choose Armodafinil if
You want the sharper morning onset and a more researched track record. Modafinil has the larger evidence base because it has been on the market longer.
