Phenotropil (Phenylpiracetam analog)
aka Phenotropyl · Carphedon
Russian prescription nootropic; structural analog of phenylpiracetam. Used clinically in Russia for stroke, fatigue, and ADHD.
Mechanism of action
Closely related to phenylpiracetam — phenyl-substituted piracetam derivative with similar mechanism: glutamatergic modulation, dopaminergic stimulation, and cholinergic enhancement. The stimulating profile distinguishes it from classical racetams. Tolerance develops within days; intermittent use only.
History
Phenotropil was developed in Soviet Russia and is approved as a prescription drug in Russia and several former Soviet states for stroke recovery, asthenic syndrome, and cognitive disorders. It's distinct from phenylpiracetam but pharmacologically similar. WADA-banned for athletic competition. Western availability is limited; the compound is often confused with phenylpiracetam in supplement markets.
