Choline Bitartrate

Inexpensive choline salt. Lower bioavailability than Alpha-GPC or CDP-choline but cheaper. Often used as cheap baseline choline source.

Mechanism of action

Choline conjugated with tartaric acid. Less bioavailable than Alpha-GPC or CDP-choline for raising brain choline levels. Adequate for general dietary choline supplementation but produces smaller acute cholinergic effects per dose. Often included in inexpensive nootropic stacks where cost is a constraint.

History

Choline bitartrate is the standard inexpensive choline salt used in dietary supplements. It's been available for decades. Modern nootropic protocols generally prefer Alpha-GPC or CDP-choline for BBB crossing efficiency; choline bitartrate remains relevant for users on tight budgets or for general choline repletion (eggs and liver are dietary sources).
