Chlorella

aka Chlorella vulgaris · Chlorella pyrenoidosa

Single-celled green algae. Heavy-metal binding, nutritional density, immune support. The cell wall must be cracked for nutrient absorption.

Dose range1500–5000mg
Half-lifeh
Onsetmin
Safety4/5medium evidence base

Mechanism of action

High chlorophyll content with metal-chelating properties. Polysaccharide cell wall components have immunomodulating effects. Complete protein and B-vitamin content provide nutritional support. The chlorella cell wall is naturally tough; commercial products crack the wall mechanically to enable nutrient absorption.

History

Chlorella was identified in the 19th century but commercial cultivation became practical in the 1960s. Japanese research led the modern clinical interest. Multiple small RCTs support various claims. The heavy metal detoxification claims are partly supported but often overstated in marketing. Unscheduled globally.
